Your request is my command....

.............in for the second post......btw do you think having turbo motors will allow more opportunity to "bend the rules" with boost adjust-ability on the fly?

Computer controlled boost will be tough to monitor. Zillions of lines of code will be the standard next year.

Ahhh, c'mon, Harry. You've got to include a full season intro.

Kick it off right! ;)

Ponyboy will now give you a full 2014 season intro: (below) (He might wait until after Brazil 2013 though.)

Yes but the big equalizer this time is going to be fuel limitation. It won't be like the 1.5L turbos of the 80's when fuel consumption was not as much a factor. There will be big risks this time in raising boost.

so instead of tyre management spoiling the racing, we'll have the potential delights of fuel management spoiling the racing!

well done again Bernie

They're already short fueling and either hoping for a safety car or switching to a lean map for a good chunk of the race. The fuel flow limit means that the amount of boost isn't so important- no matter how much you want to run, there's only so much fuel to burn with it. Efficiency is king in the new formula, including internal friction, mapping, and the turbo compounding above all.

Following a meeting of the F1 Strategy Group and the Formula One Commission in Paris, the following items have been unanimously approved:

Points for the last race
Double drivers’ and constructors’ points will be awarded at the final race of the Formula One season in order to maximise focus on the championship until the end of the campaign.

Driver numbers
Drivers will be asked to choose their race number, between 2 and 99, for the duration of their career in the FIA Formula One World Championship. Number 1 will be reserved for the current world champion, should he choose to use it.

If more than one driver chooses the same number, priority will be given to the driver who finished highest in the previous year’s championship.

and the 19 race season..... (latest version, until Bernie cocks it up again!)

The 2014 calendar in full:

16/03 Australia
30/03 Malaysia
06/04 Bahrain
20/04 China
11/05 Spain
25/05 Monaco
08/06 Canada
22/06 Austria
06/07 Great Britain
20/07 Germany
27/07 Hungary
24/08 Belgium
07/09 Italy
21/09 Singapore
05/10 Japan
12/10 Russia
02/11 United States
09/11 Brazil
23/11 Abu Dhabi

New Jersey, Korea and Mexico failed to make the cut

double last race points would have meant Massa would've won the championship instead of Hamilton (09?)and Alonso would've pipped Vettel in 2012

It is starting to look like a TV talent show with producers coming up with last minute twists to carry the excitement to the finale. As an ex racer, I resent that almost as much as I resent DRS.

This is the pinnacle of motorsport? Double points for the last race?

I'm not sure this rule will last long.

What do you guys think about penalties to those that don't even attempt to go out and qualify in order to save tires and what not??

I'm not sure this rule will last long.

Lets hope not!

This rule change and results that may occur is very well stated by autosport:

"Never before in the history of the world championship has one race paid out more points than the others on the calendar. Next year, double points will be awarded for the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

The motivation for this will be to increase the chances of the world championship fight to go down the wire. Of course, that will have the side-effect of making the last race of the season a prized commodity for race organisers, which perhaps explains big-spending Abu Dhabi reclaiming the slot for next season.

This is a concern. It effectively means that bad luck will be doubly devastating for any driver suffering an engine failure or being wiped out by a wayward rival in the final race.

What's more, by the end of '14 it's expected that numerous competitors will be juggling all manner of grid penalties for exceeding the permitted five engines, which could further distort what happens in the last race.

Overall, this is a worrying move and could pave the way for other 'event' races being given extra points status either for sporting, or commercial reasons. It could also lead to the 'wrong' driver winning a title purely because of external circumstances.

While arguably good for the show, this is a step too far for F1."

Bernie doesn't care .02 for F1, it's all about the money!

I agree. The more artificial rules that are created the more the teams will be enabled and compelled to bend them, and they will be tempted to use tactics that have nothing to do with honest motor racing, and everything to do about points gathering.

A nice layman's summary of the changes for 2014. You driver lovers aren't going to like this but us engineer types will think it's pretty neat.

Let's turn the Season Championship into a 1 race, winner take all, event next year, and award 475 points to the winner of the last race!

Miner

Thats a great idea! then we can go watch the real man race of MotoGP. Ross Brawn needs to run F1.

Even the cars will be ugly next year.

at least it looks like they have binned the 'electric motors only in the pit lane' rule..

that would be a recipe for disaster! it was bad enough at Goodwood FOS when the electric cars were moving thru the event from the FOS pavilion to the hill, they needed a golf-cart in front beeping it's horn for the entire journey as the electric cars were sneaking up on wandering visitors the first time they tried it!

I'm sure Bernie has told Horner many times..." you gotta sandbag a bit more".......so we are going to see goofy rules trying to prevent another landslide constructor/driver titles:rolleyes:
