I Got a New NSX (Sorta)

I have had my current NSX for almost 10 years. She has been through a lot and for 2013 I wanted a change.

Without damaging my car, I decided to wrap it. I always wanted a Type R type NSX so I wrapped it pearl white with black accents.

Let me know what you think. (Also it is time to get rid of my wheels)

Very, very cool.
What does it look like in the thresholds and where the wrap ends? I'd love to see some pics of what folks don't like about the wraps.

Your car looks fantastic. Just interested in what you might not like about it.
 
By taking the car apart, you can really wrap each panel completely.

He said next time he will take off the front fenders so he can ensure the seams are all pressed down but overall I am extremely happy with it!

It serves a double purpose for me, changing the look of the car and also a 8 mil protective bra/clearbra
 
That looks great. The more I see these wraps the more I want to try it myself. It's the perfect way to have a color change without actually permanently painting.
 
Most quality places charge 2-3k depending on the car. You have to take everything apart to have it done properly
 
The car detailer who did this wanted to work with me on the price since this was only his second car. The first car he did was the GTR that is behind me in the below photo.
The material ended up cost about $978 with 10 yards of pearl white and 5 yards of metallic black (we needed extra in case certain panels didn't come out right) then I paid him $1000 for the labor so just under $2000 total.
Next time he will charge between $2500-3000 depending on the vinyl choosen.
A couple of things to note, depending on the vinyl, it is either easier or more difficult to install. The flat matte colors are by far the easiest. The gloss' are a little harder and finally depending on the thickness of the vinyl will dictate the ease of installation. Chrome is also very difficult to work with as well as the other brushed materials.

I am not sure of the brand of the pearl but the black film was 3M was much thinner than the pearl (easier to scratch)

I can keep this on my car for at least 5 years without damaging the paint but he said since I keep my car in the garage most of the time, then probably longer.

You are absolutely correct. The moment I saw them I knew the stripe was a mistake.

I am looking for new wheels but I am not 100% in love with anything out there that isn't already played out or over 18lbs.

The brand is Helix and the vinyl film is called Variochrome.

All the wrappers say the same thing with a variance of between 3 and 5yrs. Fir the wrap this is true, mine was on for circa 3 yrs and apart from a few rock chips still looked great. However, you will need the patience of a saint, a very warm day and a a hot air gun to remove it if you leave it on for aything more than 6 months. And if your NSX has ever had paintwork you wil be very fortunate to remove the wrap without damaging the non OEM paint finish ... you are highly likely to remove the clear coat as a minimum.

The job looks good and similar to how I changed mine, however I'm now on the way back to Magnum ... one thing you will miss is the depth of shine compared to OEM paint ... it was the main reason I went back ... on the other hand, maintanance is nice and low for the wrap ...

I would finish wrapping the hood but that's just me , everything else looks great
 
It really is amazing. How much weight does it add? Do any of the auto manufacturers use the vinyl in production?
 
I also think it looks great. The only thing that ever scared me about wrapping any of my cars was watching a guy do it local to me. he used the blade on the car way tooo much and when the wraps had come off of friends cars i was able to see the knife marks. Nothing bad but it was what has always scared me (and many years ago where i am sure things have improved)

two thumbs up for the color change!
