1999 Yellow COUPE

I would imagine that it will sell very quickly...too soon for a comeback for me :frown:
 
That thing has been up numerous times, not sure why nobody wants it.
 
its been listed for a while on autotrader or something, i remember seeing it before. rebuilt title probably scares away most buyers. it scared away a friend of mine looking for one. i told him how rare it was, but he didn't care... he would rather get a 91-94 and swap the tranny.

I know why nobody wants it. I spent over an hour with a body shop expert right under the car on a lift. Car needs work ! Owner is a dealer who overpaid for it here in CA before shipping it to his home base in FL. He says he can afford to wait a long time until he get over the $32k he paid for it. Not happening !

The ad says, "This is a very rare special factory ordered 1999 Acura NSX "NON- TARGA -TOP" ( $5000 option ) used by Honda North America back in 1999 as a promotional corporate car. One of only 4 manufactured in 1999 as a non-targa, and only 1 of 1 in Spa Yellow ( rare rare rare) This car was owned by an Acura dealership in southern California until late 2010 when it was sold to me with just over 48K miles.The interior is clean clean clean, with soft and supple Black leather that shows no sign of wear. She's powered by a 3.2L 290 HP VTEC engine mated to a 6speed transmission. I was told this car had panel damage to the rear bumper and right quarter panel, back in 2002, NO FRAME DAMAGE, and was replaced with genuine OEM Acura parts, and therefore will be sold with BLUE FLORIDA. REBUILT title, NOT SALVAGE, it was already CHP and DMV inspected, you can register it anywhere. she runs smooth and strong with no issues,this car is clean,clean,clean other then a minor scratch on the right rear quarter panel (see last pic). This car has always been garaged and well cared for. She was just serviced with a new battery,tires, cross drilled rotors and a comp-tech exhaust system . fly in and drive it anywhere. This car looks incredible in person and comes with all it books and two sets of keys. Do some research before you bid, This car has the newer generation 3.2L engine with the 6speed tranny (world of a difference). I've seen this car on ebay and advertised a million times. My real question always (and I know somewhere on prime there are numerous threads...) Is this car a REAL 99' Yellow Coupe? I thought I remember reading at one point it was more than likely a early 90's coupe shell rebuilt with 99' parts from a totalled one? Salvage or not, is there any authenticity in the fact that this car is really a yellow 99' Non Targa 3.2L 6spd? :confused:
 
I'm pretty sure its validity has been established. It's real...it's just real bad also.
 
Allow me. Yes this is a real 99 coupe and a very significant car to us "old timers". Most of us know it well. I was the guy in charge of sponsors at NSXPO99 in the Monterey CA area and was pleased to death when our friend "Woodwork" (who is still with American Honda ) decided to bring the car to the event. We had a lot of good fun with it and everyone saw it. It later went to the magazines to be used for testing. I was promised a call (are you reading that Woodwork ? :smile:) before the car went to auction. Unfortunately it slipped thru the cracks and a dealer in NV bought it. I lost knowledge of its whereabouts until it popped out in SoCal last spring with the seller who is auctioning it now.
It was stored for a while in Costa Mesa at a vintage 911 restoring business where I spent no less than 2 or 3 hours inspecting it and driving it before deciding it was worth no where what the seller wanted.

I did not remember seeing this car at Monterey though. I thought Woodwork brought a "00" Zanardi and a black NSX-T to the event. There was a blue NSX NA2 coupe there but I did not see this yellow one.

I will look for pictures and will check with Kent to confirm. The only other possibility is tha I am confusing NSXPO99 with another one of our events at LS.

Steve, you may be thinking of the Acura hospitality party at one of the races where they had a MC Blue with tan interior at the entrance to the tent....

Just as an FYI, there were 2 Blue NA2 coupes produced. One was a 97 Monte Carlo Blue Pearl with Black Interior, and the other was a 00 Monaco Blue Pearl with Black Interior, both 6 speeds. If I am not mistaken, the last I heard was the 97 was still with its original owner somewhere in the SouthWest area, maybe Socal?.

It is too bad this one is yellow, because if it was a different color, it would be the one that I would want, salvage title or not...

Car looks decently clean in the pictures and the fact that it is a 3.2 6spd coupe makes me feel like it'd be worth the right owner giving it a new life. Bad past or not, I'm curious why so many are against this car.


One red valve cover, one not so red.:rolleyes:

They're both red. It's the shade that makes it appear black.
 
I've seen this car a few times down here in the past six months. It looks pretty clean and straight. The scratch in the rear fender is no big deal. I didn't get to do a visual as good as other members here, but for the right price this is a decent car. That is, unless it has frame damage that I'm not aware of.

It's definitely a better deal than the POS 2002+ Red one that has the wrong front end. :D

My wife thinks that I am deaf and senile so you are not as bad as me. The 1997 Blue hardtop coupe was brought to NSXPO 1999 by a member named Rick. He bought the car new. I met him on the second day of Monterey when we went to that "Fort" place for dinner. He parked next to me and I was surprised that it was a coupe with a blue top. I was under the impression that all hardtop coupes except most of the green 1994 have black tops. So Rick and I were chatting about his car. He ordered the car as a coupe. When the new car arrived, the top was also blue which he did not particularly asked for. There were only a couple Spa Yellow NSX-T at Monterey. One was owned by HOTHONDA and that car won the Best of Show. This particular yellow 1999 coupe was not there as I was contemplating a yellow car then. I would have taken a ton of pictures then. I was however very impressed with John Foster's 1997 white NSX-T at Monterey and I ended up buying his car in 2001.

EXACTLY what I was thinking. Already a coupe, already 3.2 6spd... in a coupe can't get much better than this. Which is why I couldn't make any sense of all the negativity and hate this car has gotten :redface:
 
I like that one and gave it serious consideration when I was looking. In my opinion it's almost the perfect NSX:

1. Color (except Ivory interior would be best)
2. Coupe
3. 3.2 w/ 6 speed ODBII
4. Popup headlights
5. Decent wheels
6. HCVC (Hybrid Color Valve Covers -something I've always wanted)

My personal drawbacks:
1. It has EPS.
2. Title Issue from prior damage, thus asking price too high.

From what I have heard, EPS doesn't provide an assist above 35mph.
Not sure why this is an issue for you. I suppose you could put a manual rack into it but it seems like those are scarce now.

The title will always hold 99% of the buyer pool back. I am a stickler regarding clean titles, but I would make an acception on this one ...but it has to be priced right.

See my post #5 above. After spending a couple of hours with this car and assessing the damage and more importantly the quality of repairs, the only thing I would do with this car is make a dedicated track or race car out of it. If you must have it as a street car, figure a $20k-$23K purchase price plus $5k+ readjustments and painting. That would elevate it to a fair market level. It is no surprise that in over SIX ebay auctions, the car never went over the low $20k's. My 2c
