Kenwood DDX712 Slow Startup/Slow loading Ipod

I've had this unit for my NSX for a while now, and I noticed that it is very slow to start up (about 30secs-1min)and another 30secs-1min wait to load my iPod. I've always thought it was normal, until recently I got an Alpine IWA-502 installed on another car. Now this deck loads much faster, almost instant, in start up and loading ipod, which makes me wonder if my Kenwood load times are normal? Any advice would be appreciated

I have the DDX-812 and it's basically the same unit as far as Ipod control goes. My bootup time is probably ~10-15 seconds. I connected an iPod to mine and it was near instant accessing the iPod.

I just put a 712 in an RV last week and it didn't take much time to connect it either.

Check your iPod firmware. You have the ipod video cable that connects to the Kenwood USB port right? Hopefully it's not that old iPod interface box (I don't even know if that's possible to hookup now).

Thanks for the quick reply, Malibu! Actually it was from your 2din-thread that I decided to get the Kenwood deck :D And I just realized my mistake, I actually have the 812, not the 712. So something is definately wrong here...

Yes, I have the cable for iPod connectivity (the one you have to buy extra right?) I'll check the firmware... But yeah... It shouldn't be THAT slow =x What do you think could be wrong? A bad install/ bad deck?

The 812 and 712 have very minor differences. But now that you mention it, the DDX-812 has 2 USB ports. One is marked for iPod, the other is for everything else. Make sure you are using the one that says iPod.

The one other thing that might cause a problem is the iPod connector not seated correctly into the iPod. My friend had a silicone skin case for his and it was behaving real funky because it wasn't seated correctly, it pinched the skin of the case.

My guess would be that you might have the iPod cable plugged into the wrong USB port. I've never had experience with doing this but it's clearly written in the manual that you should use the cable labeled for iPod. See page 7 here.
