NSX-R shift knob vs. Voodoo, others...

hey guys,

I was doing some shopping for a new shift knob and did some searching on this site and it seems the NSX-R shift knob is quite popular but WHY is it sooo expensive? I realize it's titanium so is that the main cost factor? I like the shape of the NSX-R but prefer a knob without the yellow 6-speed engraving.

Those of you who own one perhaps you can chime in? Is it weighted? Does it thread lower than the stock shift knob?

I was thinking about just buying one of these Voodoo knobs which I have on my s2000 and feels pretty good:

any comments appreciated! :)

i have the 05 knob in my 05 nsx and the nsx-r knob in my nsx-r clone as well as the ricks titanium spun knob in my s2000.

OK.. so what i think honda learned (with the 2002 nsx-r titanium knob) is the heavier the knob the better, thus the 04-05 knob was changed to be rouund ala nsx-r and very heavy.

i think the best knob of the bunch (again due to weight and feel) is the ricks voodoo titanium ( it is a little heavier i believe - but have not weighed versus the acura nsx knobs above). but still in an nsx i like a honda knob becuase there are two really great options (above factory available). For my s2000 i like the ricks.

Awesome reply - exactly what I needed to hear! :)

I luv the Voodoo in my s2000 as well and wanted know be sure the threads on the Voodoo will fit my NSX as well. I tried to move the Voodoo to my 04 NSX but it didn't seem to fit right with the stock stalk - did you use the aftermarket stalk from SOS? I plan on going with the SOS short shift kit and stalk.

thanks

The SOS stalk is from the Zanardi, it's the same thread pitch, but the threads go further down the stalk, to allow you to mount your shift knob lower, assuming your shift knob has enough internal room for it to physically go lower.

What you can do with the Zanardi stalk is trim the thread down (as there is more of it), to allow your knob to mount lower.

Any shift knob, so long as it is M10x1.5, should fit fine in any year of nsx.

I bought this. Search for "Acura Honda NSX 91-04 Round Solid Steel Shift Knobs" on ebay.

Product link is here - http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Acur...m14QQhashZitem280267287729QQitemZ280267287729

It is significantly heavy. I couldn't believe how heavy it was. Think of one large ball bearing with a threaded hole like something you'd find on an M1 tank. If I threw it at someone it would cause some serious damage.

For $19, I thought i'd give it a try. Surprisingly I still have it on my car and like it. It threaded correctly and the heavy feel weighs it in such a way that it feels smoother or perhaps less knotchy. Anyway, fitment is great but it won't have the snap piece to hold up the OEM leather boot. I bought a aluminum cap from someone here on prime. I think it was Scorp!

I'll take pics tomorrow if needed.

ryu: Why does your s2000 shift knob look so high perched way up there?

My s2000 shifter is bone stock except for the shift boot and Voodoo knob and look at the overall position:

That's the picture from the ebay ad. I don't own the car in the pic.

I meant to say - I can add a pic of the shift knob installed in my NSX.

Hope that clears it up.

BTW: Did you sell your S2k OEM steering wheel in the 01?

Sorry I mis-understood :)

OEM steering wheel went back on the car a long time ago when it was sold locally. I did not want to risk selling a car with no airbag. I still have the Momo yellow wheel if you interested.
